Most ref. 1803s are desirable. This one is exceptional, and the dial is the reason.
The linen finish creates a fine crosshatch texture across the surface that shifts with the light in a way a plain dial simply cannot. Up close it has real depth and movement. At a glance it reads as quietly refined. It is one of those details that rewards attention, and once you have seen it, plain dials start to look a little flat by comparison.
The Sigma designation at 6 o'clock confirms the use of precious metal components within the dial construction, a detail that matters to serious collectors and adds another layer of legitimacy to an already interesting piece.
The 18K yellow gold case is in fantastic condition, with strong edges across the lugs and a well-defined fluted bezel. The Calibre 1556 automatic has been fully inspected and is running well.
Fitted with a brown leather strap. The day wheel is Spanish, consistent with the watch's provenance.
Accessories
This watch comes with its original green Rolex box, original guarantee papers recording the original sale in Spain in 1974, a Spanish Day-Date booklet and supporting Spanish literature, and a matching Spanish day wheel. The consistency across papers, booklets, and day wheel makes this a cohesive and genuinely rare set.
Why this one
Linen dial Day-Dates attract serious attention on their own. Add a Sigma signature, full original paperwork, a documented Spanish market provenance, and a matching day wheel, and you have something considerably more compelling than a standard 1803. This is a collector's watch in every sense, and the set makes it nearly impossible to replicate.
