There is a version of the two-tone Datejust that most people picture when they think of a classic Rolex. This is it.
Ref. 16233, 1991, 36mm steel and yellow gold case, fluted yellow gold bezel, Jubilee bracelet, white dial with applied Roman numerals and matching gold hands. The configuration is as clean as it gets for this reference. White over champagne is a meaningful distinction here — the white dial gives the watch a crisper, more refined feel without losing any of the warmth that comes from the gold bezel and bracelet centre links.
The 16233 sits in an interesting place in the Datejust lineage. Condition
The dial is clean and bright, with the Roman numerals and gold hands sitting well. The steel case presents nicely, the fluted yellow gold bezel retains strong definition, and the Jubilee bracelet shows honest signs of 30-plus years of wear — as it should. It remains attractive and correct for the reference.
